According to his family, he was admitted to a hospital in Patna a couple of days back amid his deteriorating health. While addressing Surendra Gopal’s death news, his son named Piyush told PTI, “He passed away today. His loss is irreparable both to us, the family, and the academic community at large.” His son omitted the medical cause of death of Historian Surendra Gopal and did not specify the illness that caused him to pass away. Speaking about Surendra Gopal’s cremation, the ceremony is scheduled to be carried out in the evening on Saturday at Bans Ghat. Tejakar Jha who is close to Surendra Gopal’s family said, his death is a colossal loss and the departure of the last of the history stalwarts.
“He was not keeping in good health for a long time, was admitted to a private hospital in Patna a couple of days ago and breathed his last today. The cremation will take place at Bans Ghat in the evening,” said Tejakar Jha.
