Queensland police have discovered a vehicle belonging to a mother of five who disappeared more than eight months ago.

Amy Schulkins, 36, was reported missing by her wife Rebecca Schulkins after she failed to return to their home in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, on December 30.

She was last seen captured on CCTV footage driving her white Nissan Patrol towards the Bruce Highway and Bribie Island interchange.

Police confirmed this afternoon the vehicle was found submerged near Spinnaker Sound Boat Ramp, Sandstone Point, about 11am today.

Water Police and Dive Squad officers had commenced a search operation in waters off Bribie Island and Sandstone Point at 8am.

Forensic examinations on the interior of the car continue.

Amy’s disappearance sparked a statewide search from police and a Facebook group with more than 30,000 members, including Australian celebrities Constance Hall and Em Rusciano, was set up by Amy’s friends.

Her devastated parents, wife and loved ones, erected a billboard and distributed flyers across the region in their desperate search to find her.

“I just want to thank my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has done so much for us, from sending prayers, printing and distributing flyers and stickers and battling the elements searching for our beloved Amy,” her wife Rebecca Schulkins said in February.

It is with an extremely heavy heart I share this news.

When a loved one disappears, holding on to hope you will locate them alive and well helps you to cope, to get through each and every day. Amy’s family never gave up that hope, their tireless determination to locate her, driving them to keep searching.
Our sincerest condolences and thoughts are with Amy’s parents, wife, family and friends with this heartbreaking outcome.

R.I.P. Amy, may you fly high with the angels. Your family can now bury you with the love, dignity and respect you deserve Xxx – Leave a Light on Inc wrote on Facebook.
