Dole: The “real hero” paid for the war he won in the Senate
Bob Dole was praised at a funeral at Washington National Cathedral, with top leaders from both sides in a kind of bipartisan performance now rare in modern government.
The coffin, covered with Dole’s flag, was carried by military honorary guards while the congregation stood, and was seen by Dole’s wife, former North Carolina Senator Elizabeth Dole, and their daughter, Robin.
President Joe Biden Dole reminded me of “veterans of our time and of all ages.” In his praise, Biden talked about Dole’s volunteering for military service and serious injuries, and how he returned to a “traumatic” year recovering from those wounds. “God, the courage that Bob Dole had,” Biden said. Doll died on Sunday at the age of 98.
New York Attorney General Letitia James runs for governor
New York Attorney General Letitia James suspended her campaign for governor, saying she would seek re-election in her current position.
The Democratic Party said in a statement Thursday that it needed to continue its job as attorney general, citing “a number of significant investigations and incidents.” James only announced that he had overseen an investigation into allegations that former governor Andrew Cuomo had sexually assaulted a large number of women and ran for governor in late October.
The 63-year-old woman was the first woman to be elected attorney general in New York and the first black person to serve in the role.
