Biography & Net Worth: Midwest Tornado: Storm hits Arkansaw’s nursing home, crew responds to reports of injuries at Amazon warehouse in Illinois

At least two people were killed in a tornado that struck an Arkansas nursing home Friday night. Rescuers in southern Illinois also responded to reports of injuries at Amazon warehouses after a roof collapsed in a storm.

Craighead County Judge Marvin Day told The Associated Press at around 8:15 p.m. that a tornado struck a nursing home at Monet Manor, trapping 20 people when the building collapsed. He said five were seriously injured and several others were slightly injured.

“It looks like it’s pretty much destroyed,” Day said of the building. “…It happens soon, but it looks like it was a while before the tornado sirens sounded.” Some residents were found in the basement and “and were prepared for it,” he says. Rice fields.

Truman’s paramedics, police and firefighters from Jonesboro rushed to the area to assist. The nursing home has about 90 beds.

Day warned residents to evacuate at the designated location.

“The worst thing will be gone,” Day said.

Video from the St. Louis television station showed dozens of emergency vehicles at the Amazon Center near Edwardsville, Illinois, about 25 miles west of St. Louis. It was not immediately known how many people were injured, but Facebook’s emergency management agency in Collinsville, Illinois, called it a “mass casualty.” A source told KTVI-TV that it was believed that 100 people were working in the night shift at the time of the accident.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Edwardsville opened two warehouses with 1.5 million square feet of space in 2016. Warehouses are used to store items until they are shipped to mail-order customers.

The collapse occurred as a heavy thunderstorm that struck the St. Louis area, and probably as a tornado. Winds of up to 70 mph are reported in parts of St. Charles and St. Louis County, Missouri. At least three residents of St. Charles County were hospitalized and several homes were damaged near Augusta, Missouri.

Email messages left at Amazon headquarters were not immediately returned.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said on Twitter that Illinois police and disaster officials are coordinating with local Edwardsville officials to monitor the situation.

“My prayers are with the people of Edwardsville tonight, and I have contacted the mayor to provide necessary state resources,” Pritzker said.

Hurricanes in Illinois and Arkansas were at several locations in the Midwest where tornadoes were found or reported to be on land.

The storm caused additional damage while following through Tennessee toward Kentucky. Several buildings have collapsed in the southern Kentucky community of Mayfield, said constable Sarah Burgess of the Kentucky Police in Mayfield.

Burgess said no deaths were reported. She said some people were trapped inside Mayfield’s damaged candle factory.
