Biography & Net Worth: Open burning scheduled for Wednesday in Leon, Baker County

Florida News Times

Tallahassee, Florida (WTXL) – The US Forest Department says it has caused some burns in the Osceola and Aparaticola National Forests in both Lyon and Baker counties on Wednesday.

A 240-acre open burn of the Oceana National Forest occurs in Baker County, two miles east of Olustie, northwest of 17 Mile Camp Road, and north of US Highway 90.

The 180-acre open burning of the Apalachicola National Forest occurs in Leon County, west of State Highway 375 and south of Forest Road 390.

Open burning, also known as open burning, refers to the control and application of fire by a team of fire experts under certain weather conditions to restore the health of ecosystems dependent on fire. Burns improve wildlife habitat, eliminate vegetation build-up, and reduce the risk of future wildfires.

People are reminded that the smoke seen here on Wednesday and Thursday does not come from forest fires. When driving in a smoking area, be careful to drive slowly with the lights on. Drivers need to be especially careful in areas where some fires occur during fog. Morning fog may combine with smoke and further reduce visibility.

The Forest Department said the burns are one of several open burns undertaken by national forests during the 2021/22 open burn season. Wednesday’s fire is in Battlefield Compartment 93 and Unit 237.
