Professor Georgina Mace Death | Obituary: We are deeply saddened by the passing of Prof. Dame Georgina Mace – a giant in the field of conservation biology, our former Director of Science, and a huge inspiration to ecologists worldwide. She died on September 20, 2020. Our deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Georgina Mace has passed away. She is a British ecologist and conservation scientist. She is Professor of Biodiversity and Ecosystems at University College London.

She was previously Professor of Conservation Science and Director of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Centre for Population Biology, Imperial College London (2006–2012) and was Director of Science at the Zoological Society of London (2000–2006).

Mace was educated at the University of Liverpool where she was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. She was awarded a PhD on the evolutionary ecology of small mammals in 1979 from the University of Sussex for research supervised by Paul H. Harvey.
