In their second Davis Cup final, in 1967, the Spanish fell back to the Australians, and by defeating Newcombe again, Santana scored the only Spanish point.

After beating Cliff Drysdale in the final, 6-2, 7-9, 7-5, and 6-1. His third “Grand Slam” was the 1965 US Open in Forest Hill. Later on, he received the only final that he managed to play in the prestigious Wimbledon tournament on July 1, 1966, in which he defeated Dennis Ralston, 6-4, 11-9, and 6-4.

Manolo Santana’s Cause of Death Due to a Disease

As reported, Chris Achilleos’ cause of death was health-related, and he passed away after suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Former tennis player’s life came to its end this Saturday in Marbella at the age of 83, where he had established his habitual residence. 

Many have been sharing their condolences through social media, including Billie Jean King, tweeting: “The great ManoloSantana has passed away. He & I won our 1st #Wimbledon singles titles in 1966 (he was the first Spanish man to win the title). We danced the 1st dance at the Ball. He loved the sport, & we shared many conversations over the years. Condolences to his family.”

Danny Miche said: “A tennis great died, ManoloSantana, champion of Roland Garros in 1961 and 1964, Wimbledon in 1966, US Open 1965, Davis Cup 1965 and 1967. A great promoter of Spanish tennis, a true champion.”

Borja Echevarría shared as well: “ManoloSantana, tennis legend, has died at the age of 83. A pioneer in Spain, he’s a four-time Grand Slam winner. This video is only five months old.”

Rafa Nadal announced: “I have just received the terrible news of the death of our great Manolo Santana.
