Dog tag for Illinois soldier killed in Vietnam returned thanks to Canadian tourist – What We Know!

QUINCY, In poor health. (WLS) — The canine tag belonging to an Illinois soldier killed in Vietnam was returned to his household Wednesday because of a Canadian vacationer.

Corporal David Gary Redenius was killed in April 1968 on the age of 20, whereas serving within the third Marine Division, 1st Battalion, ninth Marines “Charlie” firm. He died in Khe Sanh, southwest of Hill 689, and earned a Purple Coronary heart. His unit was often known as the “Strolling Dead” for his or her excessive casualty price.

His canine tag was discovered lately by a Canadian man visiting Vietnam 54 years later. Christian Dumont discovered the canine tag within the mud of Hill 689, and thru analysis came upon the place Cprl. Redenius was from. He reached out to the Illinois Division of Veterans Affairs, who situated Redenius’ household.

The Division of Veterans Affairs introduced the tag to Redenius’ sisters Wednesday in Quincy.
