Dr. Eddie Negrón Death Dead – Dr. Eddie Negrón Obituary: Cause of Death
Dr. Eddie Negrón passed away on Friday after contracting COVID-19 in early July. He was 69 years old.
“He was wearing a mask and gloves for months. He followed all the protocols,” said his daughter, Marisa Hutchinson. “We were extremely shocked.”
Negrón served the Fort Walton Beach community as a personal internal medicine physician for nearly 30 years.
Now his family is remembering his legacy.
“He was just a little boy from Puerto Rico. He came here as a child not even knowing English,” Hutchinson said. “He grew up shining shoes on the street corners of the Bronx in New York.”
Hutchinson says it was always her father’s dream to become a doctor.
“When he was young, he started off so well in science because he didn’t have to know English to understand science,” Hutchinson said.
Hutchinson tells us his family was his pride and joy, but his patients followed as a close second.
“He would remember everything about his patients – their dogs’ names, how many kids they had, where their grandchildren went to college,” Hutchinson said.
And the outpouring of love from Negrón’s patients has been overwhelming.
“I’m going to miss him,” said one patient Victoria Authement. “I don’t think I’ll ever find a doctor like him. He was the best of the best.”
While he was still seeing patients, Negrón’s family does not believe he contracted COVID-19 while at work because he took all the necessary precautions.
They believe he likely picked it up at a grocery store or gas station and want the community to know the virus is out there.
“This is real. This is not the flu,” Hutchinson said. “My father would not have died from the flu.”
The family tells us they are grateful for all the support the community has shown them the past few days. They say a Celebration of Life will be planned to honor Negrón at a later date when it is safe to gather.
