Emmanuel Baptist Church Pastor John Powell Death Dead – John Powell Obituary: Cause of Death

John Powell has passed away, this was made known through news we saw on social media today.

He was killed by an 18 wheeler while he was trying to help stranded motorists on the side of the road yesterday night.

“We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of John Powell. He was a blessing to so many, including us at FTC. We will miss his voice and his wisdom and ask you to join us in praying for his family.”

My last extensive time with John Powell was last July at a retreat in Texas. He and I sat alone for a while at sunset. I was weighing some big decisions, and looking back, I don’t think I realized until today how wise, encouraging, and affirming he was to me when I needed it.

“Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?”

All who knew John Powell are reeling from his tragic death. Please pray for all who mourn his loss, especially his dear wife Katherine & their four beautiful children.

Lord come quickly.”

We are friends of John Powell, who tragically lost his life while serving others on July 18, 2020. In true form, this servant and gentle leader we all knew and love gave his life so that others may live. His life embodies what his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

John was married to his bride, Katherine, and was the father of four children—Gunner, Bennett, Ada Kate, and Reese. He was a devoted husband and an incredible father.

He was pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in the Houston area. His love for the local church and selfless care for friends and family was evident to all.

We are asking for friends and family to help care for the Powell family as they deal with unspeakable tragedy and grief. As they have shown all of their family and friends love in times past, let us now, as the body of Christ, show them love and care.
