Middlesbrough manager, Neil Warnock, has heaped praises on Jose Mourinho, describing him as a manager who knows how to get results against the very best, “even when he did not have the best.”
Warnock reacting following Jose Mourinho’s new contract to work as talkSPORT’s pundit for the Euro 2021 championship this summer.
“I’ve got nothing but good to say about him,” the former Derby County boss said.
Mourinho will be joining talkSPORT for their coverage of Euro 2020 with the sports site describing the Portuguese as one of the most decorated managers in football history.
Warnock enjoyed numerous battles with Mourinho down the years, during his time at Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham.
“He[Mourinho] was always humble with me,” Warnock told the talkSPORT Breakfast.
“Whether it was inviting my family in at Chelsea after a game, or just talking.
“Over the last six months, I’ve had three or four messages from him.
“People forget that side of him. To be a winner, you’ve got to have something different. You’ve got to have that desire to go out and show them you’re the best, and he always had that.”
The legendary Derby and Nottingham Forest boss was charismatic, outspoken, and often controversial – but above all, an incredible motivator and exceptional manager.
“The players would die for him, he’s right at the very top. You’ve got to take the good and the bad.
“He knew how to get results against the very best, even when he didn’t have the best. I’ve got nothing but good to say about him.
“I said to him last time when he went to Tottenham, before then, I asked him to get Real Madrid again because I fancied a long weekend in Spain!
“But he got Tottenham instead, so hopefully next he’ll get a nice place for me to visit!”
