Fresh attack on Taraba community as gunmen snatch pregnant women, others

Unknown gunmen have continued to unleash terror on innocent residents and indigenes of Taraba State.

One of such attacks is the abduction of two pregnant women and several other persons in Suntai village of Bali local government council of the state.

Suntai village is the country home of the late former governor of the state, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, who was involved in the ill-fated plane crash of 2012.

Before the abduction, the community was said to have been under threat, raising tension and fear among residents.

Community members who claim to have on many occasions drawn the attention of security operatives to their plight regretted that the operatives turned deaf ears to their calls.

They said the recent attack could have been averted if security operatives had been proactive.

They called on federal and state authorities to deploy more security operatives to the area.

The victims were said to have been abducted in their farms while preparing for the forthcoming farming season.

A source from the community who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST said “all the abducted persons including the two pregnant women were working in their farms when the kidnappers rounded them up”

Though the council chairman could not be reached for confirmation, a senior official of the council said “it is true that some farmers have been kidnapped but for now, I don’t know the exert number.”

”It is sad that all the efforts to bring the attention of security personnel to the ugly incidents going on in the community were not taking seriously”, he said.

He urged the government to as a matter of urgency wade into the matter by ensuring that affected persons regain their freedoms unhurt.

No form of contacts has been made by the hoodlums to the families of the victims as at the time of filing this report.

At the state police command, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), David Misal, claimed the incident has not been reported to the Command, promising to get back to our correspondent as soon as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) reaches out to the command.
