Famed German-American architect Helmut Jahn’s cause of death was confirmed as a fatal accident in Campton Hills. May he rest in peace.
Helmut Jahn, who designed the postmodern James R Thompson Center, was struck and killed by two vehicles while riding his bike near his home in a Chicago suburb on Saturday afternoon. He was 81.
Local police confirmed that the famed architect was hit by two vehicles going in opposite directions after he failed to stop at the posted stop sign. They also confirmed that Jahn passed away at the scene.
“He was hit by the Trailblazer going south(east) and ended up in the north(west) lane where the Sonata hit him,” Campton Hills Officer Scott Coryell said Sunday morning.
“That’s what multiple witnesses relayed; for an unknown reason, he failed to stop,” Coryell added.
The driver of one of the vehicles left the scene unharmed. The other driver was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva and was treated there.
John will be remembered for designing many postmodern and iconic buildings around the world, including the James R. Thompson Center.
