According to America’s Got Talent Wiki, Jay Jay Phillips passed away in November 2021 from Covid19.
Jay Jay was a keyboardist act from Season 4 of America’s Got Talent. In the audition round, he was eliminated. He came back eight years later as Jay Jay Phillips for Season 12 when he was ousted in the Judge Cuts.
Jay Jay Phillips is from Cleveland, Ohio. Phillips competed in the Tri-C High School Rock Off with his metal band, Hysteria, in 2009 and 2010, from Riverside High School as the keyboardist of the band.
Hi’s audition in Episode 401 consisted of him playing an original piece on the keyboard that he named “monster mamma jam.” The performance was appreciated by Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne. Piers, Sharon, and David Hasselhoff all voted “No,” putting Jay Jay out of the competition.
Jay Jay returned for Season 8, when he passed the auditions with a 3-1 vote (Mel B was the dissenter), but did not compete in the Vegas Round. His audition was not broadcast on television. Phillips’ audition in Episode 1204 consisted of him performing “I Hate Myself for Loving You” by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts on the keyboard. Heidi Klum praised the act, saying she had anticipated him to perform a song. Despite Heidi’s vote of “No,” Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Simon Cowell all voted “Yes,” sending Jay Jay to Judge Cuts.
His Judge Cuts performance in Episode 1209 consisted of him playing the piano to the Scorpions’ “Rock You Like a Hurricane.” Jay Jay’s performance was insufficient for the judges to advance him to the Quarterfinals, and he, along with Aileen George and Shemika Charles, was eliminated from the competition.
