Jalen Iyan McNeil of Spartanburg, South Carolina has passed away. He died on July 10, 2020.
Jalen McNeil died in an hospital after being fatally shot in Spartanburg. He was 18 years old.
The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. at the Victoria Gardens apartment complex along Howard Street, according to Major Art Littlejohn, with the Spartanburg Police department.
According to Littlejohn, when officers arrived on scene, they were informed by witnesses that McNeil had been shot at least once prior to police arrival.
Attempts were being made to revive McNeil; however, he remained unresponsive. McNeil was immediately transported by EMS to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, Littlejohn said.
The coroner said McNeil was pronounced dead at the Spartanburg Medical Center in the Emergency Center at 7:57 p.m. Friday.
According to Littlejohn, while on scene, officers received information of another gunshot victim at Spartanburg Medical Center as a result of being shot in the arm. The male victim was driven to Spartanburg Medical Center in a privately owned vehicle by a group of friends.
Investigators are currently working to determine if the two shootings are related.
The Spartanburg Police Department is currently interviewing witnesses and seeking to locate and identify additional witnesses in reference to the incident, Littlejohn said.
There is no information about the suspect(s) to release at this time. This is an active ongoing investigation and additional details will be released as they become available, Littlejohn added.
