Cross Country Magazine wrote on Facebook: We were so sad to hear that legendary pilot John Silvester had passed away this weekend. John died aged 60 following a heart attack at home in Wales. He is survived by his partner Nicky and two grown-up children, Molly and Dru. John was a legendary pilot, pioneering paragliding in the Indian Himalaya and the Karakoram. His award-winning film Birdman of the Karakoram, made with Welsh filmmaker Alun Hughes, remains a must-watch for all aspiring adventure pilots. In recent years many pilots had the chance to learn from one of the true masters of our art as he guided pilots on adventure-flying courses in Bir and beyond. A writer, he contributed many articles about his adventures to Cross Country, and was, to this day, one of the rare few who would still send his photos to the office burnt onto a CD. Only last month he was talking to us about a project he wanted to fly in Wales, and was enthusing about the latest lightweight technology and the horizons it promised to open up. We have lost a true spirit of the sport and we will feature more on this legendary man and pilot later. We send our sincere condolences to his friends and family. See you in the sky.
