Miranda Sanchez Death Dead – Miranda Sanchez Obituary: Cause of Death
Former New Mexico Lobos women’s basketball player Miranda Sanchez has passed away. She was 41.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, she was dealing with an illness before her passing. An official cause of death has not been announced yet.
“The Lobo WBB family sends our deepest and most heartfelt condolences upon hearing of the passing of Lobo great Miranda Sanchez,” the team said in a statement. “Her impact on our program will never be forgotten.”
She played for the Lobos from 1998 through 2001, according to The Journal. She is 10th on the all-time scoring list with 1,301 points.
Sanchez is also tied for third with 186 three-pointers made. In her Lobos career, she is just one of 16 players to surpass 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
She had 556 rebounds at the end of her collegiate journey.
The Journal said that Sanchez was practicing law in Albuquerque since 2012 before her passing.

Following her collegiate experience, she played professional for three years in France. She then went back to the University of New Mexico and received a law degree to work alongside her father Robert M. Sanchez, the Journal said.
“She had an infectious smile and a big heart,” former Lobos assistant coach Yvonne Sanchez said to the Journal. “She was one of the people who’d give you the shirt off her back. She was kind of goofy, too. I can’t count the number of times Coach [Don] Flanagan put her in push up position at practice.”
