Marv Bielski Death | Obituary – It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our longtime fishing guide and ranch family member, Marv Bielski. He died on September 19, 2020.
For over 30 years Marv was a staple character at Flathead Lake Lodge, introducing so many to his art and love of fly-fishing. In a lifetime of hospitality, we could never ask to come across and be associated with a finer and kinder man than Marv. We’ll all remember the days on the river listening to Marv’s instruction and watching his demonstration as he inevitably hooked a fish…on “accident,” with his rod between his legs.
Marv was a true icon in the fly-fishing world before it became the trendy sport it is today and you would never know it. Humble, honest, kind, genuine, soft spoken and caring. You always knew that if you were a contact of Marv’s, you could expect a call checking in on you.
A trip down the Swan Valley to wade fish the Swan River with Marv was always memorable. Staying out past dark, big fish and bear encounters—we all have a story. But the best part was always the drive back to the ranch. An easy 55mph (when the speed limit is 70), usually a Detroit Tigers game quietly on the radio, and invaluable conversation to soak in learning about life from a great person who didn’t even know he was teaching.
We’re all going to miss those check up calls and late nights on the Swan River, but fishing stories last forever. ❤️
