Maxwell Entertainment CEO Rickey Poppell shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, saying. “My friend and Lloyd Price’s manager, Tom Trapani, just called to let me know that our friend, Lloyd, passed away last night,” the statement read.
“Those of us close to Lloyd have been keeping his declining health issues to our selves for the past five years, while Tom kept me up to date along the way. Lloyd was one of the sweetest, caring, and kindest man I’ve ever known, I’ll miss him. My prayers go out to his lovely wife, Jackie,” he added.
The ’50s R&B vocalist was born and raised in Kenner, Louisiana, on March 9, 1933. He was known as “Mr. Personality” after his 1959 million-selling hit, “Personality.”
The New Orleans-born singer took lessons on trumpet and piano while he sang in his church’s gospel choir and was a member of a combo at a young age. Lloyd and his younger brother Leo were both musical.
