When officers arrived, they found a man and woman with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The man and woman had been walking on a sidewalk near 5 Washington Ave. when they were struck by a blue pickup truck that then took off, police said.

Witnesses told police that a female driver, with two passengers in the pickup truck, jumped the curb and hit the pedestrians, pushing them into a fence.

“From the main drag, she’s a nurse, she came and was with the girl. I held the branches of the tree, the pickets, the thorns were hanging on top of the people lying there,” said Burgess.

“It’s a cut through between Route 135 and Route 27. The cars fly up and down the street,” said Burgess.
