Matt Daniel WBRC wrote on Facebook: Tough post to type, but here it goes…
I found out over the weekend that one of my biggest fans passed away. She would always like and comment on my posts while I was in Central Georgia and even after I moved to Birmingham. She was always sweet and considered herself a super fan. (Even Facebook declared her a “Top Fan”!)
She cared so much for animals and was a huge fan of music. She thought it was so cool that I was a musician and played my own music. Most importantly, she always trusted me when it came to providing accurate weather information.
Life in this industry can be difficult. Whenever a stranger comes up to you and tells you how much you mean to them, it’s literally everything.
It means your hard work is paying off. Negativity can take control of you quickly, and it can make life tough. You just have to ignore the haters and keep doing your job.
It is why I appreciate all of you that follow me on social media and on television.
Rosie Flanigan was one of the first people that made me feel like I was doing my job right. She told me I was her favorite meteorologist. She said I was always there to answer questions and that I made bad weather less scary for her. She really wanted to meet me, and four years ago we were able to meet face to face before I left Macon. She took this picture and I know it made her day. She posted it on her page and shared the photo years later.
I don’t know her personally, but I felt like I did. I cried a good bit Friday when I read the news. I pray for her family, friends, and anyone that knew her. She was such a kind soul. I’m sure if she was still around today, she would want everyone to love and treat animals with respect. Adopt dogs and cats and love them like they are a part of your family. Finally, enjoy music. It’s everything.
You’ll be missed Rosie. I’ll keep doing my job, and hope to inspire others about the science. I hope I can be there for all of my followers/fans when weather turns bad.
Just want to thank all of you who follow me and read through this long post. Always let me know if you need anything when it comes to the weather. I’m always around.
