Russell Capps has passed away, he passed away on October 06, 2020 at the age of 86.

James Russell Capps was born on February 26, 1931. He was a Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly from 1994 to 2006. Capps represented the state’s 50th House District until the General Assembly redrew legislative districts.

Capps then represented the 41st House District, which includes portions of the Town of Apex, Town of Cary, City of Raleigh, and the entire Town of Morrisville. The portion of Research Triangle Park (RTP) within Wake county as well as Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) are also in the district.

Russell Capps is a former member of the N.C. House of Representatives.

He represented the 41st House District, which includes Morrisville and portions of Apex Cary and Raleigh.

The Republican served six terms and was a reporter at WRAL News in the 1970s.

Russell Capps attended Murphy Elementary School and Hugh Morson High School in the Oakwood neighborhood of Raleigh. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1956 with a degree in sociology.

Surviving Families

He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, stepson and several grandchildren.

Cause of Death

Russell Capps died after a brief battle with cancer.

Funeral Service & GoFundme

A funeral service will be held Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Capps’ name to the Christian Action League of North Carolina.
