Pervis Staples, a co-founding member of the legendary Staple Singers, has passed away on May 6, 2021, at 85. Adam Ayers, who is a member of Mavis Staples’ management team, announced the sad news on Wednesday.

According to reports, the legendary singer died at his home in Dolton, Illinois, on May 6, and the funeral services will be held on May 17 in Chicago.

His sister, Mavis Staples, said in a statement: “Pervis was one of a kind – comical and downright fly. He would want to be remembered as an upright man, always willing to help and encourage others. He was one of the good guys and will live on as a true Chicago legend.”

It is a sad time for Staples’ family and fans.
