Goodsall was born in Pennsylvania on 15 February, 1953, and has lived in England, Milan, Los Angeles, and Minnesota. John began playing guitar at age 7. He became a skilled musician and joined Carol Grimes’ Babylon, with members of Joe Cocker’s British Grease Band, Juicy Lucy, and Jon Hiseman’s Colosseum.

John then toured broadly, first with The Alan Bown Set, then with Atomic Rooster. After Brand X’s 1979 world tour, Goodsall moved to Los Angeles and worked as a session musician and as a member of the band Zoo Drive which included Paul Delph Doug Lunn and Atomic Rooster drummer Ric Parnell.

He also performed and/or recorded with Desmond Dekker & The Aces, Peter Gabriel, Bryan Adams, Bill Bruford, Toni Basil, to name a few. In 1992, John also toured with Ronnie Ciago and Percy Jones, accompanying Swiss ex-Yes keyboardist Patrick Moraz.

John Goodsall’s cause of death is yet to be revealed. On September 25, it was announced in Official Brand X Facebook that John was admitted to a hospital with a nasty case of Pneumonia. The band had to temporarily postpone their dates for performance.

Later, on the 10th of October, it was found that his doctors had refrained him from traveling and playing for two or three weeks. The Brand X band showed reluctance to continue with the performance without John Goodsall on their side.

As per Magic Room, Goodsall was double-vaccinated, which means covid-19 might not be the reason behind his death. Probably, it has something to do with pneumonia complications.

Shortly after the heartbreaking news of John Goodsall’s death was revealed, several fans, friends stated their condolences and paid poignant tributes to him.

Colman Jones wrote: “So sorry to hear this sad news about Brand X guitarist @JohnGoodsall from ex-bandmate Percy Jones.. Goodsall, the only remaining original member, had been ill with Pneumonia, leading to the postponement of the current @OfficialBrandX tour.. no idea whether the band will continue.”
