Cassandra Laundrie, whose name is Cassie, is the sister of Brian Laundrie and the only member of the Laundrie family to speak publicly about Gabby Petito’s disappearance.
The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are conducting a massive search for Brian Laundrie after the body of his 22-year-old fiancée Petito was found near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Officials ruled her death a killing. Her official cause of death is still pending, the final autopsy results, The Guardian reported. Petito was reported missing 10 days after Laundrie returned home alone from an overland trip.
Cassie Laundrie, 32, spoke to Good morning America before Petito’s body was found and it was still missing.
Here’s what you need to know:
Petito sent letters and postcards to Cassie Laundrie’s children from her road trip with Brian Laundrie and signed the notes with “Aunt Gabby”. Cassandra Laundrie shared the news with ABC 4.
“The rocks here are so cool !! Uncle Brian and I saw a lot of different types of rock, I knew there were different types of rock, but I didn’t know that some were different formations, right? ”Said a postcard that appeared to be from Arches National Park. “The most popular rocks in the park are called hoodoos, funny name, right!”
Another letter reported her encounter with a squirrel.
“Oh my god! Me and Uncle Brian sat on a rock and had a snack after a long walk and the fattest squirrel I’ve ever seen !!! Came right on my lap !!” said another card.
Keeping in touch with Laundrie’s family at home, Petito sent a cheerful text to Cassandra Laundrie which she shared with ABC 4.
The August 10 text said that Cassie Laundrie’s children were going back to school. She asked for pictures of them.

“We’re in arcs right now, so we don’t have the best WiFi, but we sent you an email,” she wrote in the text along with a hugging emoji.
Another text from Petito’s phone to her mother aroused suspicion, Petito’s mother Nichole Schmidt told investigators, according to WFLA. Schmidt informed the authorities that the text of August 27, 2021 was the last communication they had received.
“Can you help Stan, I only ever get his voicemails and missed calls,” said a search warrant checked by the WFLA.
Schmidt said Stan was Gabby Petito’s grandfather, but Petito never called her grandfather by his first name.
Cassie Laundrie made a statement to ABC News after Petito’s body was found.
“Right now, my husband and I would like to express our condolences and prayers to the Petito family. Gabby was a fun and loving influence on “the boys,” as she always called them. We will cherish all the time we spent with her, ”the statement said.
Steven Bertolino, Christopher and Roberta Laundrie’s attorney, released a brief statement after the body that matched Petito’s description was found, according to FOX News.
“The news about Gabby Petito is heartbreaking. The Laundrie family pray for Gabby and her family, ”the statement said.
Cassandra Laundrie spoke to Good morning America Friday 17th September 2021 when the search for Petito was underway. Cassie Laundrie said Petito was “like a sister” and that her children loved her.
“I and my family want Gabby to be safe. She’s like a sister and my kids love her, ”she told GMA. “All I want for her is that she come home safe and sound and that this is just one big misunderstanding.”
She said that every time the couple got into an argument, it would take them some time to control their emotions and make up.
“Whenever they argued, they would take a little break and come back and be fine because that’s what you do in a couple,” she said.
Cassandra Laundrie told Good morning America she hadn’t spoken to her brother since he’d returned home from the overland trip without his fiancée.
“I couldn’t talk to him,” she said. “I wish I could talk to him.”
She added that she worked with the authorities.
“I’ve cooperated in every possible way. I wish I had information or I would give more, ”she said. “That’s all I have.”
